Behind CHITchat

About our Founder

CHITchat was created by Emily Baum, a strategic HR advisor with a sharp instinct for people dynamics and a lifelong respect for hospitality. Her in-house work has supported everything from high-growth startups to iconic editorial brands—most notably New York Magazine and Eater—where she learned firsthand how culture, clarity, and feedback shape performance.

Outside of those roles, Emily became a trusted behind-the-scenes partner to leaders at places like The Surf Lodge, Olmsted, and the teams behind Eleven Madison Park’s NoMad properties—offering quiet guidance on structure, team health, and people decisions in some of the most detail-driven rooms in the country.

CHITchat is the natural extension of that work: a tool that brings high-touch HR wisdom to the floor, built for managers who care deeply about their teams but don’t have time for corporate red tape. It’s about keeping standards high, communication clear, and the people piece just as strong as the product.

What's Next

Post-Beta Plans

We’re currently live in our Atlanta beta, working closely with a small group of restaurants, bars, and clubs to refine the product in real time. Beta access is free—because this phase is about learning. We’re watching how managers actually use CHITchat on the floor, what clicks, and what still needs work.

Next up: Expanded features, including exportable records, saved conversations, and coaching modes tailored to different leadership styles New markets, where service culture is strong and teams are ready for better people tools Paid plans, launching soon, so both small teams and multi-unit groups can access thoughtful, on-demand HR support built for hospitality Our vision is simple: give hospitality leaders a smarter, sharper way to handle people issues—fast, discreetly, and in their own voice.
